thought this one was going to get airborne - but after some furious flapping - she decided against it.
according to the Merlin bird ID app a Lesser Scaup (Female)
caught this one out cycling and thought I'd take the D5100 with it's 55-300DX lens to see if I like using it. Not the D610 but not nearly as heavy or as big slung around my neck when cycling. Alternative is to pack the D610 into the cycle saddle bag and only pull it out if I have the urge to stop, set up the tripod and long lens and do some serious birding. Otherwise the D5100 can be easily slung over the neck and ride on my belly (I ride a recumbent tricycle - very laid back - literally - and figuratively).

Cheers Mike. Yes, it was a last minute decision. Day off, nice weather. Managed to see a massive total of two Puffins, at a large distance, and in the shade of the cliffs
