Using 1/500th shutter speed you never will. Notice the EXIF on Wev's shot above. He used 1/1600th second and still has a little wing blur.

I have gone as high as 3200 at f9 and still not managed a crisp full stop. Honey bees average 200/250 beats per second in still air. Add to that the erratic flight path and transparency of the wing and you get a pretty difficult target.

It's a nice sunny day, so I got a couple of pretty good captures, but it still took a mess of shooting

I sure want to get a macro lens looking at all of the pictures here and some others. Is their any decent ones for someone on a tight budget say under $150.

All mine were shot with the kit 55-200 and cropped. I would have to get too close (which the bees don't like) to get effective macro shots with my 90.
