Mike, that sounds good.
It's landed! OMG what a beast! This is it on the gripped D610 alongside the Nikon 70-300

Does anybody that has the 150-600mm have any experience with the Sigma 50-500mm lens? I keep teetering between those 2 as I have been wanting to do more sports photography. Since I am on the sidelines at the football games, I was thinking the 50-500mm might give me a better range.
Also... I'm reading that the Tam 150-600mm is for full frame cameras... does this mean it's not a good idea for my D7000?

Well first outing, crap light and shortage of subjects,my thoughts are though we will get along nicely, once it learns what to do
Every thing today was wide open, with it being poor light focus speed was hard to judge but there is a possibility its not quiet as fast as my sigma was in poor light,i feel sure though once i get a feel for it and some good light i will be happy.
I would have thought the Sigma would have been better if you have action close to you, both lenses being 6.3 and the 7000 a 5.6 focus unit should put them on a par for focus speed, then the Tamron is reported to be sharper at 500mm,i think both are full frame so no difference there and no problem either.
Using a DX body with an FX lens doesn't hurt a thing. In fact, it's probably a bit better than using a DX equivelant. Reason being, you're using the 'best' part of the FX lens... the center portion.
I bought a D7100 for the sole purpose of mating it with the Tamzooka. It's a pair I have yet to regret putting together.
Technical comparison here: Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A011) Canon on Canon EOS 5D Mark II versus Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Canon - Side by side lens comparison - DxOMark
I don't have the Sigma but it is said that it is sharper at 500mm than the Tamron is at 600mm but I'm not sure that there is enough in it to discount the Tamron.
The crux of the matter with both of these lenses is what available light you will have to work with and how your camera handles low-light - I have used the Tamron at ISO4000 on my D800 and have been reasonably pleased with the results, however my 400 f2.8 + 1.4/1.7TC's is much better ... but heavier!
Many sports/aircraft photographers are very happy with the Sigma but wildlife photographers always want more reach so it is here that the Tamron excels - for sports I see high praise for the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 where more use can be made of the available light ... but it is a notch up the price ladder![]()
