Post your 150-600 Sigma C shots

This is the new thread, parallel to the Tamron 150-600 thread.

Here is my very first attempt. It is not pin sharp, probably my mistake (or the lens might need some tuning). This is my personal song thrush that have been entertaining me for months in my garden.

Thanks, Mike. Nice to hear it from a seasoned bird photographer. I will strive to improve. Right now, I think I can blame the weather. It is full overcast and quite dark. The light is very dull. The song thrush picture is actually quite noisy, which probably affects sharpness.

My first impression of the lens: bloody hell, it is heavy! ;) How do you guys take pictures handheld? I think I'm seriously going to need a monopod.

Apart from that, autofocus is very fast and quiet. Image stabilisation is very quiet too. Weirdly, I cannot see any stabilisation effects in the viewfinder. At least nothing obvious. I hope it works.

Looking forward to following this. I'm still on the fence about the weight of the Sport version, though it is a beast.

One thing I've found with long lenses and the D7100 is that I almost need to go 2x on the Reciprocal Rule (1/focal length) to get tack sharp, which means 1/1200 at 600mm. I think you're also sitting wide open there, so that's probably going to impact sharpness as well (I need to shoot at f8 or f9 before I can get really sharp on the 150-500). That seems to be the case on any zoom that doesn't break the bank.

Now who do you have to know to get a personal Song Thrush. ;)

Just as an experiment try going to auto iso, 1/2000 and f8 and see how that works. Also shut off the image stabilization at that shutter speed.

This is what I did in #7 above. Well, almost. I used 1/1000 s and with the OS, as it was a static subject. But yes, this is my intention, f/8, 1/1000-2000 and auto ISO.

Nice, I wanted to get the sigma but had the need for a long lens and got a great deal on the tamron. I had a sigma 50-500 and it was a nice lens, I was try to wait for the sigma sport version but my goodness these lenses get heavy, probably better off with the tamron.
