Plateau ...

I hate the times when there are no creative juices flowing. I don't suppose it can be forced and the best thing is probably to let it pass.

Anyone else on a similar plateau?

i am finding that i have no time now that the darker nights are approaching, having plenty of fun on the weekends still, we must be in our last 8-9 weeks???

my roadrunners, quails have disappeared, didnt see the owl, the hawks are getting few and far between, finding myself focusing on the smaller birds and flowers, at least the flowers are all blooming now its finally back down into the 80's.

Yes not long to go now Roy but I want to start producing "wow" photos and it just isn't happening.
I look forward to a few weeks break and a slower clicking pace next year

Best remedy: Put the camera down for awhile and find something else creative to do. If you try to force it, you'll just prolong the burnout.

Try painting or a woodworking project. Work on restoring an old car or build a model.

Maybe think of your fave pic you have taken so far and try to take it again, but from a different angle. Inspiration can be found all over the shop.

Especially in NZ... I was amazed at the landscape there! Amazeballs.

If it is merely to keep your 365 going, why not have a "theme" for a while... I did one, and I shot a month of "letters of the alphabet" where each day I would try to find something to shoot with the next letter... I admit they werent the best photos, but the sitting down and working out what I could shoot for the next 26 days got my mind working in a different way... (if you are interested, see here T's 'Toggin and Bloggin | My photos, my words | Page 25 ) It would be nice to be able to to new/exciting/outstanding photos every day, but some days inspiration wont come and you just have to make the most of what you have! Good luck finding your photographic "mojo" again :)

I think we all go thru plateaus, in no matter what it is we are trying to achieve. It will pass and you'll step up a notch ;) Keep plugging away at it Lawrence. For what it's worth I think your shots went up a notch recently :D

It's the reason I don't do the 365 myself. I want to take shots when I feel inspired, not because I have to. If it feels a slog, stop it now.

However, I find that a new angle can help. Try some flash table-top still life shots, or get the 85mm f/3.5G AF-S VR DX IF-ED Micro & get up close to things. Isn't it spring in NZ now?

I am not giving up now.
Yes it is spring here and a new lens would be nice but it is the imagination I am lacking.
I think Tracey's idea or something similar may be the way to go.
In a way I think that is why I am in monochrome mode at the moment - it's different to what I am used to.

Ah but one of the points of a 365 is to make you think "outside the box" and challenge yourself to photograph something differently. When I tried (unsuccessfully) it wasnt the taking the photos that stopped me, it was the processing/uploading/commenting on everyone elses that was taking too much time... and I felt that if I couldnt participate fully in commenting on others works, then it wasnt fair to expect them to comment on mine. My half 365 I learned plenty about my gear and myself, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone... it was a good experience overall... but I'm not sure I would ever do one again (until I retire/have enough time on my hands)

Plateau, plateau, plateau. I have devoid of inspiration for quite some time. Lacking the time to try shots I'd like to. Lacking the tools to try others. Now the dark nights are again here I'm also lacking the light too. Not to worry just another 64 shots to find. I may just experiment, let my inner pyromaniac out, set random things on fire and shoot them (or maybe not as I fear the wife may have something to say about this!) one things for sure. Once this years over I'll be happy not to have to shoot everyday. But I'll still do another project as I think I need something to keep you going. Maybe I'll do the alphabet. A to Z one a week. That will give me a week to find my letter.

Magazines can be a good source of ideas too - My wife got me a subscription to "Outdoor Photography" which each month has places to visit and what plants / animals are good to shoot at that time of year. I know there are UK and US editions, so maybe see if there is something similar in NZ to get some ideas?
