When all's said and done, you pick what suits YOU.

My Dad is 87 years of age. When I got my new D7000 a few weeks ago, I took it round to show him it; he was totally lost. He still has (and uses) his trusty Zenit E with a Helios 44-2 lens on it. He bought it in 1967 brand new, and never used anything else since. He used it to teach me the basics of photography, and my first camera was his first camera, which I inherited from him (a Kodak Retinette 1B).

He found something he liked and understood, and stuck with it.

It's not a bad way to live.

Hi all,
I posted this on the introduction section for newbies in an existing post, but it was maybe the wrong place to post it. I have a D60 and have just upgraded to D5100. The reason for the upgrade was the video option might be handy sometimes. First impressions is that the D60 take a better picture, or maybe a more clearer or sharper picture I should say. I basically tested it by shooting text on a wall and seeing which was easier read and the D60 seemed better. The camera was on auto on both but the iso on the D5100 was 640 wheras the D60 was 200. It seems the D5100 always selects a higher iso and I suppose thats where it is losing its fine detail quality.

I'm only a novice and very much an auto point and shoot beginner at the mo, but I thought the upgrade should at least produce an equal if not better photo. Where am I going wrong, and please excuse my ignorance.

Should I stick to my D60???

Regards

Absolutely not. The D5100 will reward you, but persevere and practice and DO NOT USE AUTO MODE....switch to A or P and get used to thinking about the shot. You'll get there in the end, and you'll never regret it. The more you take photos and experiment, the more you'll learn.

Cheers Patrick, thanks for the reassurance, and I will try and use P & A more to see what happens. I really do need to take a few lessons tho but isn't it great we have these forums! Much appreciate the feedback.
