Pix from Z50ii

These are from my first outing with my new Z50ii. There's also a different sequence with cormorants in the "Birds in Flight" thread.

NOTE: For any Z50ii owner who uses NX Studio for processing RAW files, I found out that there's an update to the software (v1.7.1) that enables processing Z50ii files.

Unfortunately, I was behind this guy when he took off but I liked the action.

Hello bluzman, Wonderful shots!

Just curious how you find the Z50II in comparison to the Z50 (if too early I understand) - you had great images with your Z50. Nikon actually surprised me when they brought it out. From what I have read it has some great enhancements due to the use of the flagship processor.

Thanks for the kind words regarding my Z50 shots. As for your question, I will preface my answer with the fact that I bought the Z50ii mostly because of the AF enhancements that come with the Xspeed7 processor, particularly the inclusion of a bird detection mode. My initial shots appearing above and elsewhere were taken letting the camera decide whether I was looking at a person, a bird, etc... the Auto Subject Detection mode and Dynamic Area AF, similar to how I'd shoot with the Z50. That obviously works.

Yesterday, however, I set the camera to use the dedicated Bird Detection mode and Auto-Area AF. The Z50ii performed as advertised, quickly locking on to eye of birds that were close enough for it to make the detection. Also, for BIFs, it demonstrated the ability to lock on and track quickly moving subjects like darting, swarming gulls. While I can't put a percent number on it, I will say I'm sure that my keeper rate was much better than if I was still shooting the original Z50. That alone justifies the upgrade in my mind.

Thank you your response! This is encouraging for sure, I will be keeping my eye on this one. The camera caught my eye for the very same reason that emcuraged your purchase.

Thanks for posting your images and taking time to comment I appreciate it!
