Piperbarb's 2013 Project 365

11-20-13:

I have 6 students in my photography elective this marking period. After a brief introduction about what photography is and its history, We went outside today to take some photos. The day was perfect: temperatures in the mid 40s (F), sunny, and no haze. The kids were having fun taking photos of wall textures, the playground, and each other's eyeballs. Don't ask, just understand that they are teenagers... Need I say more. While at the playground, one student took video of himself going down the slide. That was a rather interesting perspective. :)

I was able to get a couple of photos of the playground jungle gym without students because at that point, they were photographing each other's eyeballs. I suggested they go around taking more eyeball photos, then post them in the hallway with a challenge for their fellow students to identify who belongs to which eyeball. They thought I was weird. :)

What grade level are these teens?

My wife teaches 9th grade and I hear the stories in the evening.

I pass by this house every day. In the evening, when they have the ornamental lights on, I never seem to have the correct lens on the camera. This time, I deliberately made sure I had my 85mm f/1.8 lens with me. Unfortunately, I did not have a tripod with me, but did lean against the car and was able to get an acceptable night photo of the house and its reflection in the pond.

I would like to hit "Like" but I have lived in New York and it's hard to like the beginning of snow. I always told people when I was in Watertown that we had three seasons...July, August and Winter
Watertown is about 175 miles due north of here. It's definitely worse there. I spent one semester during graduate school in Potsdam. We used to pray for snow because the cloud cover allow the temperatures to rise enough to make life bearable.

Today definitely felt like winter: temperatures in the high teens to low 20s, wind gusts up to 30 mph, and snow flurries on and off all day. I did decide to go outside this afternoon for a while to see what I could find. I came across about 6 chickadees in the forsythia bush. I think these guys are a whole lot tougher than I am, that's for sure. Here are two photos of one of the chickadees.
