Photoshop cs2 raw

Hi, I have a Nikon d7000. I have just transferred my photoshop cs2 onto my new laptop which runs on windows 8. The cs2 is currently running on the trial until I can find the serial number!
I have downloaded a dng converter which has successfully converted the files but they still won't open in Raw.
this procedure worked fine with my old laptop running on xp, what have I missed?

CS2 is VERY old and may not be compatible with the current output of the DNG converter, particularly given that the D7000 came out when CS5 was the current version. Just a guess.

As I know, cos my friend downloaded it from Adobe it is free

I suspect it's a 32 bit vs. 64 bit issue. Try running it in "compatibility mode" on the Windows 8 machine.
