I find it better than the V1, suits me better than an SLR less weight, smaller lenses etc. However I do have the wide angle and 18mm lenses. As I have a bad chest cannot do a lot of walking anyway. I guess for your birds you do need a long lens but for closer work the V2 is ideal.
PS do you ever go to Donna Nook ?

Never got there this last season,weather was wrong on the occasions i had time but i do try to,there are a few on this link from the the last time i was there

Chest problems was part of my reasons for getting the V2 i can see the time when i will struggle with a DSLR and long lens and with the 2.7 crop factor it makes the 55-300 a long lens

The cruise did come first and was very enjoyable. The chairs were second and fitted in with the list.
