"Paintery" effect software

Anyone know of software, besides HDR or photoshop, that adds this effect? or even specializes in it?

Can you give an example? Are you talking about the effect like "A Scanner Darkly" movie? Or something that looks like paint brush strokes?

I think Corel paint does it pretty well.

I'm thinking similar to an HDR shot, but without all the other changes. Kinda close to a painting but not completely, hard to describe

HDR-esque but with less... Contrast intensity, maybe?

Photomatix has Painterly settings under its tonemapping... Not sure if that was what you referred when you stated 'other than HDR' though .

Yea, I have photomatix, looking for more painting effect. I'm playing around with corel paint now, interesting, but won't let me save, guess that's because its the trial version.

Serif Photoplus has 12 choices of paint styles.Impressionest, Water color,Van Gogh, ol master,oil paint and ink Etc.

serif gives you more choices with less work. More auto. you control the strength of the outcome.
