Over half way to that new camera!

Ya know... After typing all that and walking to the barn to put the snow plow on the tractor, I think I am going to stick with oem batteries and pull the trigger and order tonight.

You guys are awesome!

...and just to keep things light around here. One of these was taken with a Canon EOS 6D, the other was taken with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phone. I'll let you guys decide which is which for a while.

This is just another instance of, "It's the photographer, not the equipment!"

Stick with the OEM batteries for sure - and the grip as well. Some decent ones, but I see too many reports of them working with AA's but not the rechargables and vice versa.

As for lens reviews, I'm with you. It's enough to drive you nuts. That said, I've found this link to be the most useful of sites. They put in a lot of time shooting a bunch of lenses at just about every conceivable setting allowing you to mouse-over and compare them side-by-side with what I'm assuming are unretouched images (outside of the cutting and pasting from the various parts of the chart). You can see how one lens performs against another, and how one can change from wide open to max depth of field. Is it razor sharp at f/8 but soft at the extremes? What's the CA like on the edges? Realize these are taken with full frame sensors, so with the D7000 some of the edge complaints will be moot thanks to the cropped sensor.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just a save a couple more pennies for the oem grip then. I don't need any vice versas going on in my life right now.

Thanks for the link too! Something else to feed my OCD which, by the way, I never knew I had until I started researching camera stuff.

Just need a little more help!

B&H says up to 6 business days for the free shipping, and $18.20 for regular shipping. I know once it's in UPS' hands, it'll be here in two days.

How fast does B&H normally ship? All I ever hear is good things. Is that true?

Could the free shipping be the united states postal service? If it is, I'll skip that for sure.

They ship very fast! I have only used standard (free) and it's usually at my door in less than 48 hrs (although, I am in the same state).

I think in some cases, shipping is a gimic. I've bought things at around noon using the free shipping and had it at my door the next day.

Yeah, I order a lot of stuff from Amazon. Been a prime member since I got my Kindle last year. The stuff flies out of their warehouse. I always try and order stuff that Amazon processes, and it's ALWAYS at my door step the next day. Doesn't matter when they say it's going to show up, doesn't matter when UPS says they're going to show up. It always gets delivered the next day. It makes me wonder if UPS gets a kickback if they deliver their stuff faster...

Anyway, on totally unrelated news:

The D7000 body, along with whatever bag and memory card comes with it, and the 17-70mm lens, and two 32gb sandisk extreme cards have been ordered!

Now comes the absolute worse part. Waiting. How do I deal with that?

I order 99.9% of everything from B&H. ALWAYS order your cards from them or a reputable company they are counterfeited a lot. Good choice on cameras and where you bought from. As far as grips go I have the OEM grip on my D700 and a Zeikos on my D300. Both cameras use the same grip and I dare you to tell a difference.

I did order the Sigma. It should do just fine for me! I used the advanced search on pixel-peeper.com (It trolls exif data on Flickr) and found a bunch of pictures taken with that lens on the d7000 body. They look pefectly fine to me, regardless of any review!

Sigma and Tamron both make fine lenses. You can search the reviews and chart and graph sites to support any agenda but if it comes down the to camera/lens combo that suits your needs then it's perfect. Looking forward to seeing some samples from your new camera and lens!!
