Older Lenses, do you still use them????

Yes after a quick scan it sounds similar. :) But this thread is more about lenses that are still great lenses worth getting. A favorite older lens that you keep in spite of it needing manual focus.I guess the difference between the two threads is that this thread has only one purpose, that is to share info on great older lenses that can still be great to use even on new Nikons. But your right the two threads are very similar. :)
I have a Nikkor AF55 f2.8D, I only use it manual focus for close ups, its a nice sharp lens that I bought quite cheap.

This thread was started a while back, unfortunately it seems to have died off, http://nikonites.com/general-lenses/12478-inexpensive-glass-fame.html#axzz2aK2MNWAy

OK what was one of your favorite older lenses for Nikon SLR? I'm very interested in finding great older lenses for a price I can afford(cheap)! :) So if you have any lenses you'd recommend for those of us who like great older lenses we can afford, we would love to hear about them! :D

Welcome again to the forum! :D

Hi.

Nikon is a little disadvantageous for manual lenses than canon and Sony.

Nikon can only use its own manual lenses and Middle format lenses because of flange distance. İf you use for example Canon FD(old canon), konica or pentax lenses they wont focus to infinity.

So i should advice nikon mount lenses.
My first advice is Nikon mount soviet lenses. They are incredible:

"Mir 20H" 20mm f3.5

"Mir 35H" 35mm f2

"Helios 81H" 50mm f2

Kaleinar 100mm 2.8

I used these and all was very sharp.

And i used nikons own lenses too:

Nikon 24mm f2.8

Nikon 35mm f2

Nikon 50mm 1.4

Nikon 55mm 2.8 micro

Nikon 135mm 3.5

These all also very incredible lenses.

And my advice for buying them. You should look to ypur local stores. Photography studios etc. There is so many film cameras with lenses on them in that places and they give it for very bargain prices coz they think these are useless :)

Dont search on ebay :)) Mostly they put very expensive prices. Ofc maybe ypu can find some bargain but its little chanche.

And www.keh.com is good for some lenses. You can find bargain conditions.

Hi again.

Nikon is disadvantageous for manual lenses because it can use only its own lenses. and Middle format lenses with adapter.

My firs advice is nikon mount soviet lenses:
İ used:

Mir 20H - 20mm 3.5

Mir 35H - 35mm f2

Helios 81H - 50mm f2

Kaleinar 100mm f2.8

These are awesome..

And of course nikons own lenses:
İ used:

24mm 2.8
35mm f2 ais
50mm 1.4 ais
55mm 2.8 ais
135mm 3.5

And also these was avesome.

And i have to say that you should look to your local camera stores and photo studios for film cameras. Most of them give old film cameras with lenses for bargain prices coz they think that are useless :)

So my 200mm is due to be here tomorrow, and I read an interesting bit of info on it here that makes it sound like a great lens!
Has anyone here tried this lens? If so what do you think? I'm pretty excited and really hoping it turns out to be as good as my 105mm! Lol :)
I think I'll try to see if my new 135mm has a good review also! :D

Wow that is cool! I still want to get the smaller mm lenses like 35mm and so on. Lol :D oh an I like the idea of the real powerful lenses, but the cost may frustrate that idea, a lot! Lol :D
Bill,

Thanks. I do. I really cannot think of another lens I need, except the 70-300 zoom. Once I have that, I'm set for quite a while.

Cool looking lens! Likely cost a small fortune! Lol :) by powerful I meant high magnification like 1000mm or something like that. :) But those are too expensive. What I need to get when I have the money is lenses like the photo you just posted but an inexpensive version. :D

The oldest lens I have is an AF Nikkor 28-105 1:3.5 - 4.5D. Love this lens. Tack sharp! Plus, it has Normal and a Macro settings. This one's made in Japan. The only thing I don't like about it is the lens hood. Looks like a salad bowl! :) (HB-18)

I have that lens as well, the two I had mentioned are manual focus. I don't use the lens hood with the 28-105 because it's more of a problem then an aide. I just stuck filter on it's fine.

Well I just got all three of my lenses in the mail today! Woohoo! I haven't had time to check them out much, but the 135mm and the 200mm seem great after playing with them for a minute or two. The 300mm is made for a tripod for sure! Lol I took it outside for a quick check and it looked great, but due to user shaking the photos weren't focus very well. Lol :)
I was a little surprised that the 135mm and the 200mm were a smaller diameter than my 105mm, but then I remembered that the 105mm was a non-ai lens it was changed to ai specs. So the 105mm is likely older than the other two! Lol :)
The 135mm has a pretty stiff focus, but it still works very well. So over all I'm happy that my luck held and I think I got three more good-great lenses! :D
