Old eyes and contact lenses

I did decide to go try bifocal contact lenses. Nobody at my eye center had ever tried them and my eye doctor told me that the bad rap on them is they are uncomfortable. Well I have had them for two months and love them. They are very comfortable, I cannot even tell I have them in. I can see distance and read with each individual eye.
You are talking about the rigid lenses, right? I really want to try them. The soft ones 'worked', but made me crazy. Very distracting with the co-mingled near and far regions, I could not ignore the blurry areas. And on top of that they wanted me to have one optimized for distance and one optimized for reading. Not good, I need symmetry. Just wearing one lens was better and cheaper than the soft multifocal, but still very distracting.

No these are soft contacts. It is not distance one eye and close another eye. Each eye can see both independently, which is wha I had to have for photography. They are not cheap $500 for 12 pair (a years worth) after insurance. My eye dr allowed me to do a trial pair to make sure I had the right ones. My left one was spot on but my right was three different try's with a week and a half in between (special order).

Thanks. I forget the brands and models I tried of soft multifocals, it was about 6 years ago. The guy was very patient and I tried a bunch of samples over 6 weeks time. I think all were the concentric ring styles with round areas of distance/near. Some had right and left eye models. Your right eye got the one with distance in the center surrounded by a read area and the left eye got one with read in the center surrounded by a distance area. Horrible for me. He even let me try two right eye models (both with distance in center), but it was still unpleasant. I'm reading here tonight that there are now soft lenses as well as rigid that have a definite top/bottom. I'll tip my head back or cast my eyes down to read if need be, but I can't be depending on my brain to ignore the blurry regions. Glad you found a solution that works for you!
