Off Camera Flash. Please Help.

This discussion is my last hope for finding an answer. :) I have searched high and low online and cant find this combination. I have the d5600 and Flash SB600. I know the 5600 does not have commander mode and the Sb600 cannot be used as a master. How do I do an off camera flash? Is it possible? Is it cost efficient? If yes what do I need to buy or do. Please break it down for me really really simple.;) If it is possible, what is the cheapest way /brand to do this. I am looking to just experiment for now with an off camera flash to know if this would work well in my small basement studio.

You need a set of radio Flash triggers... Basically a small transmitter that goes on the flash shoe of your camera, and a receiver that connects to base of your SB-600...

There are a few other makers... (Godox is another popular, respected brand) and the prices go up from where this set begins... Most are expandable... and by that, I mean, you can buy multiple receivers to add more lights and the single transmitter controls multiple receivers... The more features you add, the higher the price...

You can also look into slave triggers, which see the on-camera flash and trigger the off-camera flashes.

These tend to be be less expensive and very reliable i certain situations.

Start here. Strobist has been the go to source for off-camera flash for many years. Start with Lighting 101 and fall down the rabbit hole.

For gear, it's hard to beat the Godox ecosystem. They're cheap and good - a rare combo. Just make sure you order a trigger with the "N" designation, for Nikon. The X2T-N for example. The TT600 are very capable speedlights, and if you need more power, the AD200 is a good jumping off point.

The main thing is, don't waste your money on Nikon flashes. They're ridiculously overpriced.

If you are not adverse to using them in manual (the horrors! :) ) I have used these triggers for many years. They are inexpensive and reliable and work at least 100 feet away from each other. The receivers use AAA batteries and the transmitter a single 23A battery (you can find rechargeables for them too, I have several). They have 4 dip switches to prevent inadvertent triggering by another transmitter.

If you want to work in TTL mode, you will probably have to go with something like Alien Bees or Pocket Wizards. They work very well but they are not cheap!
