Not Selling my D7100 Right Now

Before I bought my D610 I thought I would sell the 7100, but no. It's great to have the advantages that both crop and full sensors offer. I think the term 'stepping up to full frame' should be re-phrased to something like 'adding full frame', maybe?!:)

I do agree. There is often a sense that people view full frame as a promotion, badge of honour or recognition that they are an accomplished photographer. I was probably guilty of this myself to some extent. Having now got a d800 and modern crop sensor d7100 I realise that they are both very capable, and both are better for certain jobs.

The 7100 didn't exist when I went fX so I was gaining huge ISO performance over my previous camera, but if I was a 7100 user today I would need to take a harder look at the decision if I was being sensible.

For instance.....when I shot some images at the Wilmington car show, I used my D7100 and the 14-24:2.8, and it framed pretty damn perfect the shots I wanted. If I had the D610 then, I would have had to do a lot of cropping. Not only that, without the AA filter, the pictures were vibrant....don't know if I would have gotten the resolution on the D610, but maybe I would have. I was very pleased with the D7100 for that subject matter.

I took it one step further. FX, DX, and Four Thirds (regular and micro/mirrorless ) :)

I'm going backwards: from four-thirds to m-43 and now to a (used) D200 which arrives tomorrow. I'll keep most of the m-4/3 rig but the D200 will become a D7100 in a few months, then a FX body will join the garsenal (gas+arsenal) at some future date. Might have to wait 'til there's a D900 though, before I can scrimp the cash together. Next on the list are some FX lenses to stick on the DX bodies.

I have a D800 and a D7100. I use the 7100 for set up shots and for bracketing and then I bring out the D800 for night shots and also when I've got my shots all set up. Before I got the 7100 I was using the 800 at the rate of 10,000 clicks a month! Now it's a quarter of that...They each have special characteristics that I really love.
