I've found latly that if i shoot a burst of say 5 photos. and while the counter for how many shots i can take before it's buffering. if i take photos during that time, those photos don't get saved. is this a real thing or am just having memory problems on what photos i actually took?

Your post is a little confusing to me. I think you're asking if you can take more pictures while the pictures from a burst are still being saved? Only a single write head and a single buffer so the answer to that question will be No.

ok so i use it in single shot mode. but can hold my focus point with a half hold on the shutter button. i took 6 photos of my kids playing. release the shutter button to restart a new focus point. turned to my wife took 3 shots of her, then back to the kids releasing the shutter button and refocusing on the kids. and i remember taking 3 phtos of my wife. but when i got home there was only one photo saved. i've been noticing this alot latly. where i'm out with my kids and other friends kids, taking photos and go from one spot of shooting to another that some that i though would be real nice photos are not there. hope this clears it up.

no. i know how to use my camera. i hold the half to keep the focus point i choose and finish the click to take my photo. if i am taking more then one photo at the place i'm pointing i don't release the half push to keep my focus point.

I might be completely wrong as I don't know the D300, but could it be that you are shooting in bracketing mode and that the captures are converted to HDR in camera?

I.e. You might want to check the settings for the bracketing mode.

The camera operates in fifo mode (first in (to the buffer), first out (to the memory card)), therefore there should normally be no lost photos.

On a more general level, the first operation to take is to RESET all configurations to the factory default in order to be sure it is a potential hardware and not a configuration issue.

I'm wondering....does your D300 have the latest firmware? Also, what memory card are you using? Use the fastest one you can afford. I have a few Lexar Platinum II's, 4GB 200x cards, and a few SanDisk Extreme 60 MB/s UDMA 8GB. Never had a buffer problem.

If you like, I can email you the Setup Guide for your D300. Just PM me your email address, as it's in pdf format.
