Go for it, if you don't own a kit lens(es) already. Significantly wider focal range than kit 18-55mm and a better build quality. Additionally, buy any decent 70-300mm "macro", and consider yourself a well equipped hobbyist...

JH Foto, Look into my threads and you will find lots of pics taken with 16-85mm. I think it is a great Walk-around lens which handles almost every light situation very well. And let me say that the 2mm more from the 18mm's are great.

This is the definitive zoom for Dx cameras. It is wider than anything out there and almost as long as I would like. As long as I have a dx camera this will be my lens of choice. It stays on my camera 90 per cent of the time

Lens has arrived, it certainly looks and feels fantastic. Our weather at the moment is wet and very windy so results in a few days...

Cheapest I have seen in shops is around the £440 mark.

I really have no idea unless the person who sold it did not know its value, but its complete with UK guarantee.Going out today to give it extensive test.
