As was said, View NX2 (isn't there a 3 just out?) is fine for getting your images uploaded and making some very basic adjustments. But if you're shooting RAW and want to get the most out of your images you're going to want to move to something else like Lightroom (my personal recommendation), Aperture, Capture NX2 or something else.
I started with ViewNX 2 but when I got LightRoom it was such a humongous improvement I now only use ViewNX 2 to transfer and look at my RAW files for selection of keepers.
While it's hard to change a workflow you're used to, I strongly recommend importing using Lightroom if you have it. It allows you to embed additional metadata, protecting your image, and gets the photos immediately into your catalog. From there it's a quick run through using a single keystroke to flag any keepers, display and delete all the unflagged images, and off you go to processing them.
