Nikon Image Space to be closed down very soon

I got the announcement email this morning and confirmed on the web site.

[Important: Notice Regarding the Termination of NIKON IMAGE SPACE Service]​

Thank you for using NIKON IMAGE SPACE.
Due to changes in the market environment, the NIKON IMAGE SPACE service will be terminated on October 15, 2026.
We encourage you to download your saved images at your earliest convenience.

October 15, 2026, 9:00 AM (Japan Standard Time) The NIKON IMAGE SPACE service will be terminated.
* After the service is terminated, all features except bulk download will be unavailable.

October 15, 2026, 9:00 AM – April 15, 2027, 1:00 PM (Japan Standard Time) Bulk download will be available during this period.
* Note that downloads specifying individual albums or images will not be available.

April 15, 2027, 1:00 PM (Japan Standard Time) All data will be permanently deleted.

I expect that this is a cost-cutting move. Economic news reports have been bad for all camera manufacturers, particularly bad at Nikon.

Does anybody still actually post to Flikr? Google photos is not a favorite of mine.

I put all my edited images on at least two separate portable hard drives. I'm not particularly a fan of hosting sites. I suppose they have their uses, but there are definite down sides.

I've just started to use Flickr and it seems to have a massive user base, currently just using the free version but might upgrade to the 2 yearly Pro version just to stop enticing me with the please upgrade banner......but I don't mind what they offer.
I do this only because if I lock my pics away in a separate Hard drive which I do anyway, but others won't get to see what I've taken.
Maybe not enough people use Image Space enough to warrant it.

I just use these sites for sharing my photos to other people. I archive the photos on network-attached storage once I get around to moving work off my PC hdd. Instagram is a poor fit for me, never signed up for Facebook or other stuff like that. I just like to open a new photo album up each new year and share it out to family and friends so they can see my new photos without me bombarding them with messages all year.

I have actually had a free Flikr account since Yahoo acquired them. I just never made it part of my routine as I figured it was pretty much dead since Instagram, FB, and that "X"-rated Tweeting place became a thing.
