Nikon D7100 heating and draining battery

Did you have it in video mode? I'll have to check mine to see how long the standby modes are set but I always assumed it doesn't meter light as long you haven't "woken" it up.

My D750 consumes a lot more energy than my D3300. Not sure if that's supposed to be like that but I better check my timers too.

What kind of battery do you use? Model number? EN-EL 15 or what? Thanks. That might make a difference.

EN-EL 15. That's what was included. In the beginning I didn't pay much attention to it since I was constantly browsing the menus but now I use the LCD even less than I use the one on the D3300 and if I'd have to guess based upon energy consumption, I think I could take 50% of the shots with the D750. He's a real hog.

That was my assumption too.
I have sony fullHD camcorder so I don't use my camera for video mode, but I will test it in video mode..

I am not sure about D750 since it is FX.
My previos camera was also DX, Nikon D5000 with battery capacity 1080mAh and D7100 uses 1900mAh so I presume that's why I can make almost twice more photos with my 7100.

There's probably a difference between batteries but the D3300 is advertised with a battery life of 700 shots while the D750 has 1230.

I can easily double or triple the count on the D3300 when not using the LCD but I'm sure I will never reach 1k on the D750.

Hopefully it did not cost you too much money. As for resets, there are several different types, there is no easy all-in-one reset for everything. I think there is a reset shooting menu, a reset custom menu, reset user settings, and a 2 button reset. Not all do the same thing. This is where it is handy to save a pdf copy of the manual on you computer so you can search for key words like 'reset'. There is no way to memorize what all the resets do. Flipping through the paper manual, especially when you are actively trying to solve a problem can be frustrating. I was thinking the meter might be on, but I did not recall a setting for 'no limit', sorry I did not think deeper. I just looked for it and its under the custom settings I had to scroll off the screen to see 'no limit'. So I guess a 'reset custom menu' would have done the trick. Thanks for letting us know what the problem was. Enjoy.

Super Mod
I've picked up today my camera from the service.
Bad news is that I am total jerk. :triumphant:
But good news is that camera is working perfectly :p

Standby timer was set to 'no limit' so light meter discharge battery after couple of hours.
One thing I am not sure about is who put this setting since I don't remember I did it.
Other thing is that why this setting doesn't reset with "reset to factory defaults".

Anyway, I was so distressed that and overlooked that camera isn't going to standby although
nickt asked me if camera's viewfinder display turns off.

Thank you all for assistance.
;)

What do you mean standby timer? Is it timer or remote standby?

It is custom menu C2 on the d7100, it keeps the metering active and viewfinder display on for x number of seconds. I didn't realize there was a 'forever' setting.

Me neither. I realized the hard way ;)

It was about 10 USD. That's really nothing - important thing is that everything is ok with camera, I was so scarred that I screwed something. :redface-new:
