Hi, I am also in a dilemma. To buy 70-200- f 2.8 VR-II or not. I am using D-7000 with AF-S Nikkor 18-200 1:3.5-5.6 G ED VR lens and not very happy with the results. I am a hobby photographer- based in Mumbai, India. I usually take pictures during holidaying or family functions. Here in Mumbai the lens costs equivalent to about US$ 2800/-. I shall sell my present lens if I purchase this 70-200 f 2.8 lens. Guys, need your suggestions... I can afford the price but for my kind of usage is the upgrade worth it? Please help.

I have a D7000 and used the 18-200 VRII for a couple of years as a walk around lens. I have the 70-200 VRII and have used it on the 7000. The upgrade is well worth it in picture quality, build quality and ability to shoot in low light environments while zooming at a fixed aperture. You will need something to replace the 18-70 range and could pick up a nice used kit lens like the 18-70.

I have a D7000 and use the Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 lens. It's a great lens for the money. You can pick up a good used one for about $700.
Heres a couple from that lens.

Why are you not happy with the results of your 18-200?

I have both AF-S 70-200 VRII and 80-200 D. Both are very good lenses, but the 70-200 is better due to its quicker focusing and its ability to use Nikkor TC and retain autofocus.

You already have the best 1.5 TC you can have. It's called the D300.:)

Agree and in bright light D300 will help and has helped cover my surfing photography needs.......

I wish I could live with the ISO over 800.....

(Hello Nikon still waiting on the D400!!!!!!)

Tell me about it. If It wasn't for that, I would probably still have Stevie Nicks.:) Then again, I'm still shooting most of my stuff at ISO 100. LOL The 24MP sure does help with cropping though.

I am truly baffled Pete as to where the D400 is especially now that DX sports shooters are moving to Canon to enjoy the amazing AF and big buffer on the new Canon 7D.

WAKE UP PEOPLE release the gosh darn camera!!!!!

I would sell my D7100 in a heart beat to have a 24MP usable ISO 1600 sensor in a D300 body. Honestly I don't think that we will ever see that happen.

Nice get @Jacknet

Mine is the 2 ring not the push pull, I should have been more clear in the thread title to begin with (and spelled "users" not "uses" in the title too ha ha)
