Nikon acknowledges dust issue!

Looks like I'm going into the garage attic and digging out the warranty card, haha. I'm probably going to send it into Nikon when I get back from my cruise. I am at around 200 shots, and noticed some spots in the upper corner already.

That's really odd because I change lenses constantly on my D700 because all I have are primes, and I rarely get dust spots on my sensor. I wonder why the D600 sensor is more dust prone. Does the D600 have sensor vibration cleaning like the D700? On the D700 you can even set it up so it cleans the sensor each time you power down, though I have never used it because I don't have a problem with dust.

In my case, and the majority of others I have read about, it isn't dust. If it was dust, I could live with that by blowing it off. No, this is oil or some other type of sticky gunk that simply won't go away without wet cleaning the sensor. Yes, it has a sensor cleaner in-cam, although I question the effectiveness of it. Having shot Olympus for 8 years, I never encountered a single spot of anything on the sensor thanks to their fantastic built-in sensor cleaning.

I had a big spot, and did a sensor cleaning by lifting up the mirror and blowing off the sensor (not wet), and it got rid of the one spot. Then after a couple more pictures, I took one of a white wall, and noticed some more already. Oy.

The want a copy of the warranty card and receipt. I learned long ago to keep a folder of all warranty stuff, camera related and otherwise. New toy comes into the house the first thing that happens once the box has been opened and the equipment inspected is that the warranty card and receipt go on my desk for online registration and filing. One manilla envelop can save hours of headaches down the road.

I dealt with this problem with my 300s.The first time there were a lot of spots. Come to find out they were oil spots. Oil from the mirror hinges. I went ahead and cleaned it myself and had to do it monthly for a while. Now I'm down to every few months.

I do this too. I also scan in the items, especially receipts that have a tendency of fading over time.
