Its to do with the lens elements,

Taken from the apo description


  • Three SLD glass elements for effective control of colour abberations
  • High quality APO construction

Taken from the none apo description

Low dispersion glass element for effective control of colour abberations


Not too good a description i know but its generally accepted the apo version is sharper

I seen some more photos taken with the Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG Macro from that link and.
they look nice not a bad lens for the price

well I bit the bullet and did something different I bought the Nikon 55-300mm ill play with it some tomorrow...

I wish that I had bought the 55-300 when I bought the 55-200. I think I would have enjoyed it more. I had gotten it before I joined this forum though.

I'm thinking of selling my 55-200. My son had me sell his for him since he has a 55-300 Sigma now. Mine is getting zero camera time now that I have the 18-200 Tamron
