The 180mm f/2.8 AI-S ED really is one sweet tele... I didn't know good copies could be had for that price.

Yes, it is a terrific lens for the price (even at $400) plus it is nowhere near the weight of the 200m f/2.
I'm sure the 180mm is a great lens for what it is but it can hardly be compared to the 200mm f/2. Sorry.

No one is saying that.
I was simply confirming what a couple of others said. Of course it isn't the same lens and isn't in the same category; however, for a lot less money, it is a fast, much lighter weight prime with gorgeous bokeh.

There's a guy on FredMiranda that shoot magazine covers (ones you've heard of) exclusively with that lens.

Nope, not the 180 or the 135, but the 200/f2 and the 105/1.4, along with the usual suspects like the 85/1.4.

I'm not sure without looking. He takes nice magazine covers and doesn't seem controversial. Maybe he likes small lens?
It is, forgot I typed it. The guys doesn't use any id on his gear.
