So far I have only removed them manually by hand. I have neglected my home tank as well, which is why it looks as it does now. But my plan is to get into a tight schedule for water change, start running my phosphate filter again with phosban or similar product. I also plan on changing the filter of my RODI unit, to be absolutely sure that the water I use for WC and top off is totally clean. Finally I might add a few critters to the clean up crew; a tuxedo urchin and an emerald crab to take care of the bubble algae that is creeping around in the corners.
Lots of stuff to take care of in such a small fish tank. But luckily winter is on its way, so time will be there for nursing the tank

And what kind of 'black algae' are we talking about? Have you identified the species?
