I currently have a D7000 with the kit lens (18-105mm with a broken mount) and an additional Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. I received some amazon gift cards for Christmas and I'm looking for recommendations on what to buy next.

I shoot RAW only and most of my pictures are of my kids (either playing candies or posed portraits) or nature shots when I can (landscapes or wildlife). I'm currently post processing with ViewNX and an old version of Photoshop (that I'm not very good with).

Here are my options for the stuff I want to buy eventually. I'm looking to prioritize the list based on what will increase the quality of my photographs and decide whether to buy something now or save the money for something more expensive that will improve my photos more.

* Lenses
** Nikon 17-35mm f2.8
** Nikon 70-200mm f2.8
* Filters (plus step up rings for current lenses)
** 77mm Graduated ND
** 77mm Circular Polarizer
* Flash
** Nikon SB-700
* Software
** Adobe Lightroom 5

I suggest Tamron or Sigma 17-50 2.8, real good for the money and very sharp too. Or the 35 1.8. Then the flash. I think the 17-35 1.8 might be a little heavy for following kids around.

I'd fix or replace the 18-105 and move the sb-700 and lightroom 5 up to the top of the list. You can get the 30 day trial of Lightroom. Wait until you have time to watch some of the free adobe training videos so you get the most out of your trial. I'd hold off on the two 2.8 lenses. You might not ever need the 17-35 and you might prefer a cheaper but slower 70-300.

I'm not opposed to a third party lens, but I'd prefer to stay with full frame lenses where I can so they are not obsolete if I would upgrade to an FX body in the future. I was also thinking about the flash or lightroom as the purchase that would make the most sense. I am also thinking of buying a new mount for the 18-105 and fixing it myself. There's a youtube video that shows how. Very cheap that way.
