This date only occurs once, so I've had my sunrise plan for a while.

I don't usually get up until 9:30-10:00 (don't hate me) so getting up at 6AM was not normal. My espresso machine had an error message. When I went outside, it was raining. When I got in my vehicle, my body decided I needed to go back inside to take care of business. Maybe this was the end of the world.

When I got to the beach, it was totally overcast and cloudy. So, I sat there looking at the horizon, and, there it was.... a small orange ball. It lasted about 2 minutes and it was gone behind the thick clouds. But it did show up.

The end of the world supposedly doesn't actually occur until 11:11AM.

I'm going to do my laundry anyway.

Oh I dunno - no one else in means less work to do? Scive off early as the boss ain't around, eat all the left over mince pies, play xmas tunes at obnoxiously loud levels whilst air guitaring and dancing like Carlton (from Fresh Prince of Bel Air)... the list could be endless :)

Look on the bright side of life - at least you can get onto Nikonites from work :p

My end of world almost occurred though - I played juggle with my 50mm f/1.8G (no damage done), but left a greasy finger print on the front glass... and lo and behold my Lenspen is no no where to be found - all doom and gloom here now :(

It was raining here at 6am, but I did manage to take my morning bike ride after it stopped. Way cloudy! Wait, I see a glimmer of sunlight coming through my window.

This is the spot that I usually use to take my sunrise photos. Today, I learned a cool lesson. I know the sun moves with the seasons, but I had never experienced it like this morning.

When I am perpendicular to the horizon, the sun would rise at approximately 1100. Today, it wasn't there. The sun actually rose at 0100 to almost 0200. I hadn't expected that much of shift. You don't notice the scale as much when the sun is high in the sky. For me, it was pretty neat.

nice location, plan on doing a shot from there on the longest day and display side by side. Or go back each month and
watch the suns location change pretty neat.

I wonder if the Mayans ever imagined the iphone and all of the useful apps it has (like a light meter that tells you the correct exposure so you don't burn out crap) why would anyone want it to end? LOL
