It's up to you of course but I'm going to point out the difference in price between the D3100 shown above and a D3300 on Amazon (dot) co.uk is only about £120.

For that price increase you're getting a camera body without an OLPF, which will give you significantly better image quality. The '3300 is has much better resolution, better color depth, more dynamic range, better battery life, a much higher resolution rear LCD, higher maximum ISO, shoots faster and it's lighter. And that's just off the top of my head... I say all this without taking anything away from the D3100; it's just that the D3300 offers you a hell of a lot more for that paltry £120 or so.

...

I have been looking at the D3300 and it dose sound very nice. But now its just a bit out of my price range. I would like to get a lens, mem card, case, extra batt and so forth.

Decisions, decisions!

The d3300 is an excellent camera, but then as you say, you will also need a bag - Extra lens right away is more a "Nice to have" than essential and that opens up a whole new range of choices!

It can be to start with, I think you first camera is the hardest to decide on. That's why I was a bit taken aback when you said you were buying today!

Personally, I'd approach it from a budget direction:-

If it takes a long time to save and build up available funds, then I'd go for "Less camera, more lens" and sway towards the D3100 and maybe a 55-300mm zoom (Wildlife), or either the 35 or 50mm (Around town and portrait type stuff) primes.

If you can save a bit fairly easily, and maybe afford a lens etc. a couple of months or so after buying the camera, then I'd go with the D3300 - As you will still be learning the basics of the camera and general photography, so in that time you wouldn't "Miss" not having that extra lens. You will also have more idea what kind of photography you want to do, and make a more informed decision on the next lens.

Well to be honest it's been the past week I have been looking.
I think I will go for the D3100, It will do for now as it takes time for me to save.

A fine choice, I had my D3100 for 4 years and it served me very well - I only upgraded because I wanted the more advanced features of my D7100. Over that 4 years it took 8000+ photos.
