New Nikkor Lenses Announced!

The sample images from it looked amazing, hopefully the average consumer copy will be able to deliver the results they are showcasing.

Since the Tamron I've had a constant fear of long superzooms needing way too much AF adjust between nearest and farthest zoom lengths. The Sigma had me at hello with that feature (USB dock) alone almost.

I have the same with the Tamron, about 16 AF fine-tune stops of difference between 150mm and 600mm which is why I shoot her at 400mm only. I can only set one adjustment and would have to do the others manually each time I change the focal length.

That's what I was doing.... I had memorized the settings for the lengths I shot the most and would have to adjust every time I changed length. It just got to be way too cumbersome.

Same. It's not that I'm too lazy to change it (well not always) but by the time I'm in the menu, adjusted focus and am ready to shoot, the bird died of old age.

If I decided to get the 200-500 f/5.6, I would pretty much leave it permanently attached to my D7100 for wildlife photography. Given the great reach as-is, I'd much rather have 300-750mm equivalent @ f/5.6 with 24mp sensor and get better IQ (and the MTFs look pretty damn good) than 420-1050mm equiv and f/8 with the TC14. Given I currently use my (non-VR) 300mm f/4 with TC14 and already have to bump ISO much higher than I'd prefer @ f/5.6 during the early late times of day when I see the most wildlife, I don't want to take another 1 stop aperture penalty. I think 750mm (equivalent) is plenty of reach for my purposes.

That's an option too. I have the 150-600mm permanently attached to my D7200 but only shoot her at 400mm for reasons explained. If the 500mm provides similar quality, I already gain quite a bit without the TC.

Focus speed at f/8 is a bit slow anyways.

Adding a 1.4TC to the 200-500mm probably isn't a great idea unless the conditions are very very favourable. It'd be an f8 lens, and would probably need another stop down to increase IQ, so around f11

Good plan. I'm going to wait for your review of it with the 1.4 before I go about listing the Siggy which I am currently enjoying very much.

If you are going to list the Siggy, give me first shot at it if you don't mind. I am not in a hurry so just take your time and let J-see be the guinea pig:D

This country isn't first in line for the new stuff so you all might be shooting her before it is even delivered here.

But if I can catch the shop owner, he might be able to push some buttons. He likes me. Well, he at least likes my money.

Great, just when I was about to pull the trigger on the Tamron 150-600 Nikon announces the 200-500! Decisions, decisions...

Hmmm, hopefully this forces the price of the current (soon to be old) 24-70 down enough for me to push the 24-120 off my list.

Almost pulled the trigger on a D750 with the 24-120 but I might just wait a bit longer and see how prices go.

As for the new 24-70.... holy smokey burn a hole in my pocket, that's some serious cash for that lens!!!!!!!!

Nikon is getting a little big for it's britches with a price tag like that. I hope they focused on beating Tamron's 24-70 for that monster price tag, haha, otherwise that would be quite embarrassing.

If the 200-500 really comes out at that price, I sure just made up my mind what I'm getting (myself) for Christmas!!!
The price is legit, it can be pre-ordered at all of the major authorized retailers for that price already. Better start looking for some top notch cookie recipes to leave for Santa. :)

Just placed my order at B&H for the 200-500. Might take months for it to arrive, but who cares. My 70-300VR will be going on sale the moment it gets here.

No kidding. The 24-70 seemed tempting until I saw that price. I could probably get a 3rd-party equivalent for a fraction of that.

A gray market Tamron is literally 1/3 the cost..... Nikon has lost it unless this new version has magic sharpness pixie dust sprinkled on it.
