New Monitor Asus

Ok, I found a deal on an Asus monitor so I bought it. Now i have a question. In the settings it has an sRGB mode. Anyone familiar with these types of factory settings? And if so...how accurate do they tend to be? From what I can tell it does change the screen output, but without software I have no real way of checking if Asus is spot on with the setup of this mode. And by the way, at 24 inches this thing is awesome. It is a giant leap from my old monitor.

Which model? I've been looking at a 24 inch Asus model for a long time now, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. How good was the deal?

It's so hard to declare monitor accuracy as I've seen color variation from monitor to monitor of the same type when set to the same defaults. Best investment I've made was a Spyder4Pro calibration tool. The gods were with me as the day I went to buy it B&H wasn't recognizing my NAPP membership and free shipping, so I called the next day instead and it dropped $30 (it's back to regular price, I see). Regardless, It's nice to look at the same photo on 3 different computers and have it look the same.

An uncalibrated monitor is an uncalibrated monitor, no matter how good it is. It can be close, but you never know how close or how far.

The VN247HP. Got it for around $160.

Cool...I've been looking at the ASUS PA248Q and comparing it to the Dell UltraSharp U2412M. I'm leaning towards the ASUS, but the price difference just keeps getting bigger. By the time I actually buy, there will probably be 10 other better monitors out there though.
