New Member Introduction: Nikon DSLR User; D850 & D7200: Nature Photographer

Hello and thank you for the input on a problem I have on my D7200.

I shoot with a D850, a D7200 and S20 Ultra. I use my cropped sensor with a 150-500 Sigma for birds and my f/4 300 mm on my D850 for moonrise and other nature stuff that's closer. I am thinking about ordering a 60-600 Sigma for my D850. I usually buy used products from Adorama since it's an expensive hobby. So far it has worked out well for me. I first went to Adorama after watching many of their FREE tutorial videos.

I have attached some of my photos so you can get an idea of what I enjoy photographing....for what reason I don't know. But I love photography.

Thank you again for all your input in helping troubleshoot my problem.

Hello BetZHohe. Welcome to the group. Your pictures are a great start. I also use a D7200, and it seems to be a great camera.

I found this forum looking for a fix on my D7200. I bought it used 2-1/2 years ago for only $650 and it's been a great camera. However, after letting it sit for a month when I went to use it the back screen was black. I looked online and thought it needed a new LCD screen. However, when I pressed ISO + -/+ the screen lit up but only until I took my fingers off the buttons. I played around and found that if I hold down 2 button and then turn on the camera the menu, infor, and other screen come up until I take my fingers off.

I have tried factory re-boot but I don't think it's rebooting since the top lighter screen never flashes off momentarily like it's supposed to when factory re-booting.

I've tried everything anyone suggests and nothing is working. I think it's a software confusion since it will light up the screen and I can see the menus.

The photo below is me holding down 2 buttons while turning it on. But black screen as soon as I try to use toggle or any button.

PS: It still takes great photos but when I need to format a disk I won't be able to. Is there anyway to format disks on my PC? Below is a photo I took with it since back screen doesn't work. I can't preview in the field.

I am really sorry that you are having problems with your D7200 BetZHohe. Fortunately, I have had no problems (except for my own personal problems using the camera). If there is any place you might get help, this is the place. Best of luck!!

Use this two button method to format your cards.

PS Those are the two button in red and I believe the word format also.

Try this reset which is more of an electrical reset that @Peter7100 shared with us (Peter, I wanted to quote your post and put it into this thread but haven't yet figured out how to do that so your username gets attached).

The reset you did was only to reset the shooting menu back to default.

Peter's original post comes from this thread.

Re: Tip - Attached lens won't autofocus

Not sure if this is relevant to this make/model, but on Canon body, I was able to reset things by doing the following:

1. Switch off
2. remove battery and card
3. switch on
4. Hold down the shutter for at least 15 seconds
5. switch off
6. re-install battery and card
7. switch on and keep your fingers crossed.

It worked for me and cleared unusual issues I was having with it.
This was apparently a suggestion from a technician in one of their factories and was not widely known in the public domain. It makes you wonder if this is what they do when people send their cameras in for a repair costing a fortune:confused:

Try at your own risk!!

There is an internal battery in the body (not talking about the removable one). However, I'm not sure the internal battery plays any part in the screen displaying. I *think* there might be a setting to select how long the screen stays lit although I'm not sure. Maybe either @Fred Kingston or @nickt can weigh in.

I am thinking there is something like what you mentioned to be an issue. I am having a hard time thinking about sending it to be fixed when I can buy a used one on ebay for the same price.

Did you read through this thread? Maybe one of your buttons is stuck?
