Just joined the site this evening and wanted to say Hello. I am a "hobbyist" and have been since my first camera, a Pentax MX bought in 1978. After 12 years, I went through a couple of K1000's then bought my final film camera, a Nikon N50, which my mother-in-law dropped on the sidewalk following my stepdaughter's college graduation ceremony. I had been using, at the time, my first digital camera, an Olympus Camedia 420-L. I soon went back to Nikon , purchasing a Coolpix 8700, later an L5 which fit into my pocket, and a few years later a D60. I currently use the 8700 and the D60 as I enjoy them both and actually prefer the 8700 as it's not as bulky and just easier to carry around.
On a recent trip to the mountains with my family, I let my 14 year old daughter shoot pics with my D60 and she enjoyed it. And yes, I gave her instructions on how to handle and carry the camera, unlike her grandmother.
