Today the image size restrictions were updated to help save some space on the servers. Previously image uploads to the forum were set at 2mb while the gallery was set to 6mb. This was much too high, especially when you have multiple photos downloading per page.

The gallery has been decreased to 2mb per image and now images attached to threads are re-sized appropriately to a max of 1024 height or width.

If you already have your photos hosted somewhere else we encourage you to insert them into your posts by
  1. clicking the 'insert image' icon,
  2. select the 'from url' tab
  3. paste in the url of your photo (to get it right click and copy location)
  4. uncheck 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally'

Alternatively you can use bb code around the image URL, which you can just type as
Code: 
[ IMG]http://imageurl.com/image.jpg[ /IMG]
(without spaces between [ and img)

Also, if you already have an image in the gallery, please do not upload it again to a forum thread - this only duplicates the image on the servers. To insert the image into a forum post from he gallery, simply click the "My Photos" at the bottom of the editor and click the photo you want to insert. Select the medium size (should be default).

By doing the above this will ensure everyone can see your photos without waiting 5 minutes :)

and not sure why anyone would post even a 2 M picture! since it really is an open formum, and pictures are printable at 2M,, I post all internet posts at 360-500 K,, big enough for video display, but not that useful for prints (sure 5x7s),, but cleary not even close to the originals.

Also, I fixed an error with the lightbox scrolling - previously you wouldn't be able to scroll through all images on a page by opening one lightbox (clicking on an image). Now you can!

So if i upload to my gallery and then use the URL upload option in threads & reference locally, that should be fine right?
Or is that still a double upload? :confused:

I don't quite like the 'my photos' option cos it seems to randomly sort the images & i take forever to find my last upload to the gallery

Reference locally will upload the image to the post - so it would be a double upload. It's not smart enough to know it's already on the site. Uncheck the reference locally and you'll be set.

Guess the resizer (Should your images be to big they will be resized automatically.) doesn't work any more. I've had to resize most of mine.

Gallery, I put all of my photos in the gallery before adding them to a post.

How big are the images to start? Previously the limit was 6mb, it is now 2mb.

The last was 3.2mb, but I thought they were supposed to adjust down if to large.

In the past i would upload my images at around one mb but since we had the episode of our pictures showing up on other sites I now upload all my images at less than 300kb and I think they look just fine.

Right, but since 2mb is now the hard limit, they will only adjust down if under 2mb :)

It seems to me that uploading larger files would only encourage people to take your pictures by making them available to print larger. The picture below is only 270kb and looks good enough to me for viewing and discourages people from taking it.

I have no problems converting the size. I think the wording should be modified or removed since this isn't really true. - Should your images be to big they will be resized automatically. If its already under 2mb, why would it adjust down?? Maybe I'm just missing something.
Anyway, the uploads are really fast with the smaller size.

To me it gets very annoying when I want to look at a picture someone has posted and I have to wait and wait and wait, to see it. When that happens I usually just go to another post and not look at the picture at all. All of my pictures are 1200 on the long side and under 300kb for posting in the thread and in the gallery. In the past I used bigger files but have come to the conclusion that they are not needed and only encourage people to take them and maybe get them printed.

I've been using 1024 on the long side with no problem. Actually, it didn't work for the cypress vertical pano I posted this morning. Got a too small message.
