I was starting to doubt if it was a viable egg or not - but today I see it has hatched. Still haven't decided if I want to rush out and buy a camera now or not.

I don't think my phone camera would even have begun to take a decent picture - its an iphone4. Not something that small.

Will need to make a decision soon though

Well i say take your time don't rush your decision.
Cause you could be unhappy down the road with the decision you made.
Bird or birds in flight use different Lenses.
Nikon makes a great camera you can't go wrong with the one you choose.

Lots of good advice here, certainly enough to confuse for a while - you asked for it. :D

So to confuse you even more I suggest a refurbished camera body. Preferably a D7000 or D7100 from a reputable dealer or from the Nikon Store. Add a 40mm Nikon micro and something like a 55-300 for longer shots. All of these items can be purchased refurbished for less money. Then start shooting as often as possible. I suggest either one of these two cameras because they will give you more options for lenses down stream. And of course you can post photos on this site for critical review. Welcome aboard. You now have an international group of experts and enthusiasts to help you find your way.
