K, well I'm sending BOTH these POS's back and getting a refund. 2 bodies, 2 lenses, I'm 10 hours by car from home and now have not ONE functional camera for Christmas tomorrow!

Yeah, I'm FREAKING happy.

Clean the contacts? Why in the HELL should I have to clean the contacts on a brand new piece of gear?!?!?! (I've done it, to no avail though).

Is this some kind of JOKE?!?!?! NEVER in my life have I had a single new piece of electronic/mechanical gear fail so miserably ... BUT TWO?!?!?!

I just gotta blame QC at Nikon for this. Or I should say the lack there of.

Good luck to all you fan boys/girls. I have no ideal which way to go now. Nearly $2500.00 spent and NO camera for the holidays.

Should have brought our Canon point and shoots I suppose. They've ALWAYS worked. Live and learn I guess.

Not to throw salt in your wounds but I'm a big fan of buying my large camera purchases at my local dealer's shop. Not only does it help keep the little guy a float, your dealer will give you excellent post-purchase customer service. Every time I've had a problem with a piece of equipment I simply drop it off at the shop and return a week or two later to pick it up. Not having to pay shipping and insurance charges have easily made up for what little I might have saved buying it on-line. What's more, I end up making a good friend out of my dealer. And in the world of high end cameras, you can never have too many dealer friends!

That's crazy that you got two bad copies..... Did you try a different lens? It sounded like you had the aperture ring set wrong but....

Didn't have a different lens to try. Unfortunately I bought 2 copies of this lens. This was admittedly stupid. LOL.

At any rate Amazon has already refunded me so I'm happy.

Just shopping for another camera currently. I'll likely end up in the Canon camp ...
