in some cases the vr unit can make a slight noise when in operation followed by a slight click when it switches itself off. the loudness of the noise is said to vary between models and individual samples. i used to have the 55-200vr that made a slight "hissing" sound when vr was in operation. it was a similar sound to the af-s motor. my 70-300vr just made an audible click when vr switched itself on and off.
vr can take a moment to stabilise the image after focus has been attained hence the noise after you have focused.

D600 Dust Problems:
I've had my D600 now for (3) months, with 24-70mm 2.8G ED glass, never experienced dust problems. However I did note that when the D600 came out of the box, the plastic (lens) body cover on the camera was loose, in fact it wouldn't fit, wrong size, slightly too large. I asked the sales pro guy to make note of it, thankfully so far, no problems.
Error:
Delete "plastic lens cover" should be Plastic cover for body of camera".

Great to hear! I couldn't believe the difference between my D5100 and the D600. Dust is driving me nuts, but I'll have my kit in next week. At least I can move the dust around so nothing is sticking to the sensor.
