So far all my applications appear to work, I am using Aperture and Lightbox on Mac.
Like you I have a bad taste with Windows upgrades and I will continue to use Win 7 pro 64 bit over Win 8, however I have always had positive results with Apple both in reliability and compatibility
I experienced no problems with the new OS though it is taking some time to convert the 2 TB of photos I have in my main server, everything is automatically backed up using either Norton Ghost or Time-machine.
I would love to know what people feel about using a cloud.

Just for the Apple users on here with the MacBooks, iMacs, MacBook Pros and all the rest of them. I just watched the Apple rollout of new products this afternoon and guess what? You can upgrade the operating system of your Apple product for FREE! ::what:: Enjoy. Pete

Free is the best price always

I had absolutely no problems upgrading. My 13" Macbook Pro mid-2010 is purring right along. I was concerned that it might not like the fact I have 16GB RAM but it sees all of it and works like a champ. Like others, I have never had a problem with an OS X upgrade.

It does seem to run a little snappier, so that's a big plus. So far, the only thing that I thought was odd was that I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds to get the shutdown dialog box instead of just pressing the button. Oh, well. If that's the only thing, it's a nit and I can live with it without a problem.

I had the same problem because I also have an Ubuntu Linux partition. I went into disk utility, turned journaling back on, rebooted and ran the upgrade again. Worked like a champ.

I upgraded my Macbook with the new OS and it runs a lot faster now.
I still want an iMac though for the nice big screen to view/edit photos :D

Don't do that. Just get the 27" iMac... You'll thank me... :tears_of_joy:
I just have the older iMac 21.5 with the dvd insert on the side :) along with the 27in Thunderbolt display. I have my MBA hooked up to that, and I hook my camera up to the MBA. easy to transfer photos that way.

Yes I could do that but I'd also need to get another Hard Drive since the one on my Macbook is already 95% full.

I don't think a 27'' iMac would fit on my desk. The 21.5'' is good enough for me!

You can always hook your MacBook up to a 21 in monitor

I think a 21.5 is good enough for anybody.
I got a good deal on the 27.... But I'm am happy with the late 2011 iMac 21,5 all by itself
Running maverick faster and smoother than ever :)

MB 15" Retina upgraded fine.

Cloud? Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Having said which, I have all my music up there so I can play it anywhere. I consider my catholic music taste to be insufficient to reveal anything about me. I intensely dislike and distrust the erosion of privacy that modern generations seem to relish. They don't remember what that leads to, most recently highlighted by the mass destruction from the second world war onwards. I baulk at providing unnecessary information about me to shops! Why do they need to know additional information about me when I take a duff item back for a refund which they didn't need to know when I first bought it?

I understand about privacy. I was a victim of a credit card hack online. I don't like the direction the internet is going either. Facebook and Google being the biggest spyware of them all. Used to be free of ads and marketing and just an area to go for information. Now its just a huge supermarket. But if I let that bother me... I wouldn't have a computer, cell phone, or be on the internet. I wouldn't have a dslr because I wouldn't have a computer to edit, I'd have to use the old film cameras. t wouldn't have a debit card and I would pay for items cash only. Hey! That would save me a hell of a lot of money per month! Might have to rethink this anti privacy rant of yours :)

That said... Maverick seems to be doing well on both the iMac and the MBA. Only a few programs have had issues, like ONYX, but the developers are working on updates for those. Both computers run a lot faster than they did, so I am happy with this upgrade
