Re: Please help.

Thank you very much my friend! I had the same issue with the raw files from my D800e and switched to Dark Table and no red line any more! Lol Woohoo! :D
There are several options that you could use for now Bill. If you think your computer is not up to speed or space to store the huge D800e raw files, you could buy a portable drive just to store the raw files you want to keep and when shooting use raw+jpeg. You can then play and post the jpegs and have the raw files for later when you upgrade your computer. Or, review your files on camera and let the camera do the conversion for you and only convert the ones you want.

When there is a will there is a way.

Happy times with your D800e.

I'm super late here, but in case others run into this - the Nikon NEF raw format actually contains 2 images. One is the raw image from the capture, *not* including any postprocessing and the full frame. The other image is a preview image, is (in my case) nearly the same size (a few pixels smaller), and is what I see when I look at the picture directly on the camera. I was super confused because the previews always looked like I expected, but loading the pictures in editing software looked all grey and dull (because I shoot in "vivid" mode).

What you're encountering is most likely the difference between the embedded preview in the NEF file, and the raw format in the NEF file. I am just trying out RawTherapee, but it seems to be loading the embedded preview (pretty, bright colors) instead of the raw image itself - I figured out how to pick between them with ufraw but am trying to figure out the same with RawTherapee.
