Need your thoughts on Nikon prime lenses

Did you say you shot weddings and portraits? For your first prime, I'd look no further than a used 85mm 1.8. Superb for portraits and won't break the bank. I'll reckon that the first primes people always get is the 50mm 1.8 - and for good reason. I have one too and I love it for portraits. Both are sharp as heck.

Couldn't agree more, the 50 is the best deal ever, the 85 is a little more out of reach for some but a truly choice prime.

I own both zooms and primes, tend to use 85mm prime for portraits and zooms for most parts of the day, as there's so much happening so quickly I find 24-70 does the job, I even flick my D3s into dx mode if I want a tighter crop. I shoot the evening reception in manual focus due to low light and lots of motion, and my 50mm f1.2 is priceless. :)
