You centered Neville's mug in the frame...

You have a dead space zone on the right side of the picture...

I hate dogma but this is a great example of where some rule of thirds tactics would work very good...

The dog in his hole with the inquisitive look is great stuff...exposure and focus are good...the pic just works...I think showing off a little more real estate will help this one.

It's cropped way tight which is okay...those wrinkles will pop more if I could see just a little bit more of the environment...

Here is my take on this picture. First, let me just say that he seems to be a wonderful dog.

I took the liberty of playing around your file just a bit to give you an idea of what could be done with post processing.
I cropped it into a square format, burned the surrounding, made a gaussian blur mask around the dog so that the background would be less distracting. And applied a little bit of sepia treatment to it.

Here is my result. Please if you don't like the fact that I've used your picture to show you what I had in mind, let me know and I will not do it again.
