Move to D610 or stay with D7100?

I'm sure the next model, 620 or 610E or whatever they'll name it, will have no aa filter and 51 focus points, but it's sure to be a while yet! Again, very happy I got the 610, as I had been doubting the idea for a while and glad to own both cameras now:)

I hope you are wrong Rick..But so far that is the case..But then again the 3xxx line is entry-level dx and the D3300 is very promising..

If you've the $, I'd definitely make the jump. Big leagues are fun and open up a whole new array of lenses you can use at their intended fields of view.

It will probably be a similar case to the 3xxx & 5xxx cameras, some features keep on getting better, but the basics like no inbuilt af motor stay the same. I'm sure we'll see a 51 point af 6xx next, but maybe the max shutter speed won't change, same goes for the Df.

If they left it a bit longer between updates to the 3xxx & 5xxx lines then maybe it wouldn't seem that way, but we can't argue with the fact that they sell a lot more of those than the higher end models.

They should just do away with the 5xxx series...Nothing against those cameras...Should be 3xxx,7xxx, D6xx, and two pro choices...Then adding to those series through upgrades, as those get better..Having so many choices confuses everyone..Nikon could make it simpler that way and concentrate on their glass..

I really don't see your point. I don't think you can influence Nikon board of directors with your negative comments about Nikon's line up choice. I think that they have full time marketing people that might know a thing or two more than you about their product.

I'll bet the D6xx line is always crippled in some way, remember it's Nikon's entry level Fx.

Agreed! Nikon has to make some feature distinctions between the D600 series cameras and the next level up. That almost allows for the D7000 series cameras to always have the potential to have more features and perks than the D600 series. The major difference between both will always be the full-framed sensor of the D600 series cameras.

What's wrong with the D5000 series cameras? What makes it to be an ideal candidate for discontinuation?

My comment is just my opinion..The 3xxx and 5xxx are simply both entry level..So why have so many choices?
Why not have entry level(3xxx) and top of line (7xxx)dx
Then entry level fx(d6xx) and 2 pro fx models..
This way it is clear cut choices...Im not being negative, just my opinion. This way Nikon can get on the ball with updating their glass..This would be a win-win for all.

Please 5xxx owners,do not take offense to my opinion..The new D3300 is probably the best bang for the buck for starting out now in the Dslr market..Does it make sense for the D3xxx series to rival the 5xxx series at this point? That seems to be the direction Nikon is going..Technology is increasing and with Nikon doing so many liitle steps on all of these cameras,it confuses people on what to get..Just sayin

If your theory were ever implemented by the Nikon Corporation, it would cost them millions in lost revenue. It's ALL about marketing and selling cameras. Why would Nikon knock out a viable and lucrative line?

That's fine, you do not have to agree..But if you were looking for your first Nikon Dslr, you would surely be confused on what camera to start with..

Not really . . . I started out with a D3000, then upgraded to a D7000. I eventually went full-framed. I would think that my progression is typical of many Nikon loyalists.

I did a quick check on B&H's web site, and it looks like Canon has a few models under the $1000 price point. If Nikon were to only offer a D3xxx camera, don't you think they'd be giving Canon some of their potential buyers?

It appears that this was designed to make people feel they have a entry, mid, and top of the line dx choice..But when the D3300 shows up and rivals the current 5xxx series..It kinda defeats the purpose..No one can confirm yet,but the D3300 possibly has the same sensor as the D7100..That would be nuts and piss people off..Get my point yet? Once again current 5xxx series owners have a great camera..Change is not bad people..Who cares what Canon is doing..What did canon even release lately? I rest my case...Don't you nikonites want Nikon to step up their game in glass? I know I do..
