Motorsport photography - what settings to use?

Well, there's not a lot you can say about a photo of a car going around a turn. The color seems good and the image appears to be in good focus. What kind of feedback are you looking for? Maybe if you pose a question about the composition you would get the answer(s) you're looking for directly.

On the subject of action shots of moving vehicles, have you any panned shots of these race cars? Panning takes a bit of practice and patience since there's so many variables that have to line up perfectly but when it does the results are spectacular.

Thanks for your reply, I was looking for feedback compared to the first shots in which I added vignette etc... I didn't have any chance to take panning shots because the was place to do so....

Clearly the lightroom edited image looks much nicer than the less saturated and somewhat drab first shot. As for vignetting, that's a very personal choice and some people love it and others not so much. It's a bit ironic that we buy these expensive lenses that have been designed to reduce and even eliminate vignetting and the first thing people do is add it back with LR/PS.

As for panning, you don't really need much room, you just need the car to go past you from left to right (or right to left). Practicing at a busy street corner will set you up for the next time you're at a race. It's a lot of fun and a nice technique to master, especially if you're planning on doing action shots. You can reproduce something that looks like a panned image in PS but it's not quite the same and certainly not as cool as a true panned image.

So, if you're just learning and all, why watermark in huge text across the bloody middle of every pic? Just curious.

Do you shoot a lot of motorsports stuff? It's not just the individuals that take the photos. Advertisers, sponsors, etc all steal photos. I watermark right through the center of mine from edge to edge. I am NOT giving my stuff away

I'm always surprised at discrete marks on large, quality photos.
Such as your full size power station shots on Flickr.

Other members here do it, but some have found their photos being used by businesses.
A recent one was a beautiful picture of a rose at a florists website.

Not so bad if people like it and use it as a wallpaper screen but really annoying if its used for business where they should be paying for it's use.
