Monitor question

My monitor blew up a couple days ago so i ordered this monitor Dell U2412M UltraSharp 24" LED Monitor U2412M B&H Photo and also the adapter for hdmi to dvi-d. I only have my laptop as a computer which only has hdmi and vga. I just assumed that the hdmi would be needed for best quality - and assumed the adapter would take care of this, but after reading a couple reviews and hearing that hdmi function was absent, i'm starting to worry i may have made an uninformed decision.
Am i missing something?

It has DVI-D with HDCP so it should work well.
Connectivity1 x DVI-D with HDCP
1 x DisplayPort
1 x VGA
1 x USB 2.0 upstream port
4 x USB 2.0 downstream ports
DC power connector for Dell Soundbar

Ok, thanks. I got a little excited after some reviewers were probably just complaining about not being direct plug n play.
Did a little more refined search and so far the adapter doesn't seem to be a problem except the dvi-d doesn't do sound.

Sound would only come into play if your monitor had speakers and you wanted to use them. I have external on my desktop and built in on the laptop, so its non issue for me to use DVI.
