mode dial

Hello - the mode dial on my D5300 has stopped working properly. The screen display stays on 'M' when I shift the dial to 'A', 'S' or 'P'. I've tried resetting by holding down the 'menu' and 'info' buttons (the ones with green dots next to them) but the issue remains. Is anyone able to help?

Never had a 5xxx series body so not sure if this is a real option but - Perform a Hard Reset: Remove the lens, memory card, and battery. Set the mode dial to M (Manual), leave the camera off for 30 minutes, then reinsert the battery and turn it on. That is different from the two button reset.
