Mirrorless in 2026, maybe!

Any pros or cons going to mirrorless you would like to share.
Apologies for stepping into a question meant for Peter.

Cons: Shorter battery life, must turn on power switch to compose, lack of pop-up flash on most bodies. That's about it.

Pros: You can actually see your composition in low-light, AF works edge-edge, no AF penalty switching to LiveView, Focus peaking feature for manual focus lenses with CPU connectors, able to zoom the composition looking in viewfinder to verify fine details in focus, no consideration needed for mirror-slap during a long-exposure image, subject-detection AF, image review can be done in viewfinder when the sun washes-out the view of the rear screen. Probably more.

BF Hammer and Clovishound have more experience than me as I am a newbie to Mirrorless. However, I never thought I would say this but I am totally converted. There is probably no one thing for me but everything just seems a better experience with easier access to change settings via the 'i' on screen bar. For me one of my biggest changes is that I rarely use the viewfinder and now realise why so many mirrorless photographers hold the camera away from them as the rear screen is such a joy to use.
If the Z8 wasn't so expensive, I would have definitely changed my D500 for one :)

The only con for me is the price of mirrorless gear.

p.s I have just ordered my second mirrorless lens, this time the Nikon 85mm 1.8 s Z

Precisely why I wanted your thoughts after have got a chance to use it some. Followed their conversions at the time.

The last time I bought a F mount 24-120 it was over 500 dollars so maybe a Z mount is not that expensive all things considered.

Thanks again.

Z 85mm f/1.8S is on sale today at the Nikon store. You may want to check with your supplier for the discount ($100). GL

Many thanks, but even with Nikon's discount, I was still able to get a new copy much cheaper (£454) from e-infinity. Nobody seems to be able to match their amazing prices for new gear.
