Micro (or do you say Macro?) Advice Needed

I've owned the 85mm macro and loved it...at the time. However, not being overly interested in macro, I sold it to get a 55-300mm lens.

Well I already have the 55-300mm! Boo. Guess I have to figure out if macro would be a worthwhile thing for me personally to validate a new lens. Then again, there are a lot of cool bugs around here in the summer...

Has anyone used the Nikon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D Micro? I've been offered one for a great price (~ US$160). It is certainly an option. I've talked to a FX user and this is his walk around lens.

There is also the 28-80 3.3-5.6 G that has macro and is very sharp and extremely light to carry around. Got mine for $50 and it sits on one of my cameras most of the time.

Thanks Marcel. I took a quick look and didn't find information that this lens has a Macro function.

Well it doesn't do 1:1 but it can do close-ups very nicely:

We have the 90mm tamron which always has a kenko 1.4 teleconvertor on it. We also borrowed a Nikkor 105 for a day and compared them. The tamron was lighter and produced better results. I can honestly say we would go tamron again even if it was the same price as Nikon.

As for VR. Never needed it handheld on this lens.

Hope this helps.

After successfully avoiding NAS for a couple years, I finally broke down. I found a used Nikon 105/2.8 VR Micro from someone at Nikonians at a very reasonable price. And even had my wife's blessing!! I think it should be a nice addition when I just go out with the primes and 'zoom' with my feet.
