Meike AF extension tubes help.

I have just bought some on Amazon for macro photography. I put it on to my D3200 along with my 18-55mm lens.

I then turn the camera on And when I half press down the photo button the lens moves in and out and the red dot flashes as it is set up on Auto-area AF.

I fully depress the button to take a photo but the camera will not take a photo? If I then remove the tubes and just fit the lens it is ok and I can take a photo.

What am I doing wrong, how can I take a close up macro photograph?

Thankyou in advance.

I don't know those tubes, but my first guess would be that it did not achieve focus. It appears that it can try to focus, but possibly it never found focus. Try setting up for manual focus. Macro focusing is touchy, so it might be blasting through the focus point, never recognizing it.

Are you saying manual focus worked? That is, did it let the camera fire? If you haven't already, try single point focus. Try it in both af-s and af-c. It might have a better chance of locking on your subject in one of those modes. And you are focusing close, right? The tubes will prevent you from focusing at a distance.

Are you working close enough to the subject, try fitting the tube then just move towards the subject until it looks sharp and try taking a picture,DOF will be very shallow with a tube fitted you could be missing it.

Maybe this is it? The photos fired when I changed the lens from auto focus to manual focus......I will try later on as I have just packed everything away for now.
