Mat Cutters

Good thought Jack. But mat cutting blades have sharp points on the ends to penetrate the mat. A straight razor has rounded ends that won't penetrate the mat. lol... you would not want to use a mat cutter tool to shave with either. :D

Just couldn't miss the sale, 150 miles round trip so I got 11 mats and two packs of blades. Figured I would start my inventory. Got them for $4 each, I didn't see any cheaper mats, they were all the $7.99 ones. I am going down to El Paso today and I'll look for more blades. I don't know if all Hobby Lobby's are closed on Sundays but our closest one is.

WOW Bill you really stocked up. But I guess you have to when the closest store is 75 miles away. BTW all the Hobby Lobby stores in the Atlanta area are closed on Sunday as well. I would guess that is true nationwide for them. However JoAnn's and Michaels are open on Sunday. Also in our area Dick Blick art store carries a very large inventory of Logan Mat cutter supplies but at full price, no sales or coupon discounts.

I checked in El Paso yesterday and Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays also. I love that store. Cutter comes today, can't wait to try it. I've watched instruction videos on youtube over and over. Been cutting mats in my sleep.

Be sure to post some pics of this stuff, Bill!

Also, I have some self-healing mats that I use for my model railroading hobby. Don't let the name fool you. They don't really "self-heal", they're just made of a spongy material so that when you cut into them, the gap closes itself. If you pick up the mat and bend it, the gap spreads apart again.

The advantage of these mats is that you don't have to worry so much about your blade wandering into an old cut in the mat and messing up the straight line you're trying to make in your new project.

Here it is, even cut my first mat. Followed the instructions which are excellent and it just worked great. Easy to cut down a full size mat. I also converted all the fractions to decimals to do the math and then convert back.

Wonder how long my wife will tolerate the dinning room table aka mat room? Maybe we can turn that into a contest, sorta like betting when the car will fall through the ice. I could make the winner a mat.

I just told her it's either make some money off the prints or eat, wait a minute, I need to sell some prints to eat, man this is getting confusing.

I have been thinking about buying a mat cutter also, buying custom cut mats at a craft or framing store is ridiculous. Since my favorite art and framing store around here closed I have to wait like a week or two for one mat to be cut. I will have to research the Logan models. Thanks Gentlemen. :)

Wholesale Pre-Cut Picture Mats, Mat Board, Pre Cut Matting, Frame Sets

By the way, I own a Logan 750, which I use for custom format cutting. For large projects, shows, etc. I just buy from redimat - they're within 10 minute driving distance from my house, so I don't pay shipping.

I should have clarified. They wanted $50.60 to ship a mat to me, I can't afford a cutter just now, but I will bookmark that site for the future, thanks! :)

I have now matted 23 images, 17 11x14 AND 6 10x8, my first had a little bobble on one corner but since then they have been perfection, I am now looking on to shrink wrap machines. It sure would be nice to sell something.
