Well, that B/W thing bothered me. I took some test shots and they were B/W also. Checked shooting menu and WB was not active. Picture Control was set to monochrome and wouldn't let me change it. I was getting settings I don't ever recall seeing and I was able to get color when I switched to HI from LO. Something was still not right. Anyway, it turned out that somehow my release mode dial got switched to EFFECTS. I never move that off A and the lock release button needs to be pressed so I don't know how that happened. All is right in my world now.

Yes Kevin and they came back today. I checked to make sure I was in A mode and the Picture Control was set to Vivid when I got to Wako. When I left, the camera was in M. I did switch to Live View for one shot when the Anhinga was to close to the rail. I'll have to play with it later. The camera is still on the back of the bike.

I checked the manual and didn't find anything about it automagically changing the dial.

Well, according to the metadata, it was in M mode from the start. Guess it's time for a visit to the eye doctor. I was sure it was in A.
